Japan’s Major Sightholder

A Sightholder certification enables the purchase of rough diamonds directly from De Beers Group of companies, one of the world’s leading diamantaires and an elite member of the diamond industry. The screening standards for certification are stringent, requiring not only a discerning eye and cutting technique, but also future potential as a company and commitment to traceability. Currently only around 70 companies in the world have achieved a Sightholder certification; and TASAKI proudly holds one in Japan. Aspiring to provide top quality jewellery to its customers by taking responsibility for every stage of diamond processing, TASAKI made a sustained effort as a company, and finally managed to acquire certification in 1994. It is TASAKI’s status as a Sightholder that has enabled it to procure a stable supply of high-quality rough diamonds at fair prices and cut them in-house to supply its customers with diamonds that sparkle at their very best. At the same time, however, being a Sightholder means that we are expected to fulfill our obligations to society as a leader in the diamond industry.

Stunning Diamonds from

Countries at Peace

TASAKI purchases only rough diamonds produced by peaceful countries that are free of conflict. This means that all the rough stones we procure are clearly traceable to their place of production and carry a certificate under the international Kimberley Process Certification Scheme of the United Nations, which prevents illicit importing and exporting of diamonds that fund conflict. We currently purchase diamonds from four countries—Botswana, South Africa, Namibia, and Canada—maintaining clean and ethical trading practices that protect human rights and conserve the natural environment in line with stringent rules established by De Beers Group. Valuing the Earth’s limited resources, we will continue working with diamonds as a means of taking proactive and responsible action toward enabling a sustainable future through social contribution.

TASAKI’s Diamantaire

A diamantaire is a diamond appraisal expert who is required not only to be knowledgeable about diamonds and have a discerning eye, but also to be of trustworthy character. Such trustworthiness is necessary because sometimes a deal worth billions may be sealed on a single handshake. TASAKI’s diamantaire, Masanobu Ebisutani, was enchanted by stones as a student and trained in Israel after joining TASAKI. Having passed rigorous screening that included analysis of his handwriting and interviews by psychologists, he became one of very few people in Japan who hold the title of diamantaire. To date he has assessed more than 900,000 rough stones, and his extraordinary eyes and fingers are actually insured. Every single diamond procured by TASAKI has passed under his unerring eye.

Craftsmanship That Guarantees Quality

Diamond cutting is extremely precise and delicate work involving measurements as small as one hundredth of a millimetre. It is said to require at least five years of training to become a competent master. TASAKI sends its employees for diamond appraisal courses and other educational courses at the GIA (Gemological Institute of America), the world’s most prestigious independent international organisation related to gems and jewellery. Our diamond cutters are therefore highly skilled individuals whose techniques are mastered at the GIA. The fact that we undertake all stages of production in-house, including cutting, means that we understand the true nature of diamonds and assume responsibility for every single stage of the process, which enables us to guarantee consistent quality. Our craftspeople are uncompromising and untiring in their commitment to the pursuit of beauty; it is their skill and determination that has underpinned the high quality of TASAKI’s diamonds. TASAKI’s Pt950 platinum is about twice as resistant to deformation as 18K gold or conventional Pt950, thanks to TASAKI’s proprietary hardening process (patented). During the processes of shaping and stone-setting, the platinum’s workability is maintained by keeping it pliable and the hardening process is then employed at the final stage to increase the platinum’s resistance, thereby enabling the creation of delicate shapes that were previously difficult to produce. TASAKI’s Pt950 is a revolutionary material that can also be restored to its original hardness after resizing of jewellery pieces.
